The world is not respectable; it is mortal, tormented, confused, deluded for ever; but it is shot through with beauty, with love, with glints of courage and laughter; and in these the spirit blooms timidly and struggles to the light among the thorns.

I love New Jersey, and Hollywood loves New Jersey.

That's a bizarre cast to be playing corrupt Edison cops. I went to an Edison public school for exactly one year - second grade at Lindenau Elementary. I'll bet some of my former classmates have grown up to be cops. I'm not going to venture to guess whether they are "above the law" or not, but I do know that the year after I moved from Edison, Lindenau made a small splash in the news because kids were using drugs on the playgrounds.

Once again, I love New Jersey.

    It's been a relatively slow week at work so far. Dara and Aaron Karp, if you happen to read this, note that Google hasn't been working well in Shanghai these past couple days, and this has made me 500 times less productive.

  So what do I do with my time, you ask? Well, I've made four trips to the bathroom, directly followed by a stop by the water cooler to ensure another eventful trek to the little girls' room. (Is that girl's singular or girls' plural?)  It should probably be noted that if you have recently updated your facebook, I have looked at it, and if you have a blog, I've looked at that too. Unless it had a very brightly colored background, in which case,I promptly close it so that my boss won't happen to walk by and catch a glimpse of an unprofessional looking page. (Hi, Russell! Please don't be reading this.) But anyway, if Google continues being unreliable, everyone will be receiving eprops and comments from me. I tried reading some Tucker Max but I could feel a blush coming on after a couple sentences, so I switched to requesting friends on facebook.  All this leads to the conclusion that I am an objectionable intern, but, you know, I'm pretty impressed that I haven't resorted - not even once -to online shopping.

And Lot's wife, of course, was told not to look back where all those people and their homes had been. But she did look back, and I love her for that, because it was so human. So she turned into a pillar of salt. So it goes.

* * * * * *

People aren't supposed to look back.
I'm certainly not going to do it anymore.

Happy birthday yesterday, Monster!
Royce and I blew out a candle on a cake (aka watermelon) for you just now.
